Expert Meeting on RCEP
- Trilateral Cooperation and Regional Economic Integration in the Post-Covid-19 Era -
Tuesday, 29 March 2022, 15:00-18:20 (Seoul time, UTC +9)
Language: English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean (Simultaneous interpretation)
Organizer: Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS)
SYNOPSIS
Along with its entry into force in 2022, the RCEP emerged as the world’s largest FTA, comprising around 30% of global GDP and about one-third of the world’s population. On top of that, the RCEP marks a historic milestone that the three major economies of China, Japan, and the ROK achieved their first-ever FTAs between China and Japan, as well as between Japan and the ROK. To maximize its economic effects and accelerate the region and the world’s economic recovery in the post-Covid-19 era, the trilateral cooperation among China, Japan, and the ROK under the RCEP framework remains one of the key agendas to push forward. In parallel, the CPTPP took effect in 2018, and the attempts to create the Trilateral (CJK) FTA and the FTAAP have been undertaken to ramp up regional economic cooperation and integration. In this context, the Meeting will bring together prominent experts from the three countries and beyond to explore possible trilateral cooperation in implementing the RCEP Agreement to maximize its economic effects, as well as to examine ways to further strengthen regional economic cooperation and integration in the post-Covid-19 era.
